We are North Carolina based Charter School focused on excellence.

ESSIE MAE KISER FOXX CHARTER SCHOOL, also known as “Essie’s School,” is named for the late Essie Mae Kiser Foxx, a prominent community leader in East Spencer, NC.  Essie’s School is a community-centric school of choice— a free public school — that opens in August 2018 for grades kindergarten through four. It will add a grade each year until reaching grade 8 and becoming a K-8 school. We will enroll of 150 students on a first-come, first-serve basis. If the school receives more than 150 applicants, decisions on final slots will be determined by a lottery.

Our Founding Principal, Dr. Pullin, sits down to discuss Essie's School. Dr. Pullin speaks about the location of East Spencer, the art infused curriculum, job opportunities, and much more.

Principal Interview During Black Leadership Breakfast

When the weather is harsh and our environment is being impacted in a negative way by Mother Nature, School Administration will make rapid and difficult decisions. We must determine if our school will remain open, whether or not he should delay the start of the school day or if he should close the school.

Since Rowan County is a large county, we ask that you have patience with the decision- making process. Inclement weather will impact different parts of the county in various degrees of seriousness. Therefore, Administration will follow the decision of the Rowan County School System when making a final decision.

Administration’s decisions will require your help in order for the process to be efficient

and effective.

As a part of their decision-making process, they will make notifications as follows:

1. Place a notice on the school’s website.

2. Place a notice on the school’s Facebook page.

3. Notify local media (TV stations, radio stations and newspaper).

Cleveland Browns player, Chris Smith, donates $5,000. We are extremely grateful to Chris and his appreciation for education. To have Chris come back to the area he grew up and recognize the importance of educational choice is so wonderfully special to a group of people impassioned to serve East Spencer and the surrounding communities.
